• Honoring IN MEMORY OF MR. WALTER LEWIS COOK My Father Brandon’s (Donte’) and My Daughters’ Grandfather He was a strong black man and also a fighter. He was also a cab driver for Blue Bird Cabs and served his country for 3 years as a private in the Army. Active Duty: Sept 21, 1943-Mar 3, 1946 Born: Aug. 22, 1923 Died: Dec. 6, 1970 Father’s Cousin: City Government Representative: Mr. Douglas Dean. Walter was a Deputy Sheriff for DeKalb County at the timing of his death. His hobby was a Jazz Drummer and attended a music school in New York. Walter Lewis Cook was an outstanding member of The National Musician’s Union. He also played at The Royal Peacock in Atlanta located on Auburn Avenue, where he was a member of the Apollo house band with some of the greatest musicians:-Little Richard-Titus Turner &-Chuck Willis, who’s a blues singer Walter also sat in with some of the greatest jazz artists at The Apollo Theater:-Art Tatum-Charlie Mingus-Played with the Hudson Brothers of Atlanta & David Hudson played an instrumental solo at my father’s funeral-Duke Pierson Copyright 2006 Paula Cook Thompson (only daughter) & surviving widow: Ms. Dorothy S.
